Los Cabos Snuba Craze

Table of Contents

When you travel to warm, beach side locations half of the joy, we feel, is in the proximity of the ocean. The sound, sight, and smell of the water shifting restlessly against the shore is one of life’s great pleasures. In places like Los Cabos, especially, there are plenty of water based activities to take part in, but none have the popularity, right now, that Snuba is experiencing.

Snuba? Did I read incorrectly?

No, you read perfectly well; Snuba is a relatively new water based sport that mixes the best aspects of Snorkelling and Scuba diving into a thrilling and easy way to experience the ocean from beneath. The idea is that, unlike with Snorkelling, you have an air supply connected to a regulator which allows you to go farther down (up to 20 feet!) and stay down for longer.  Unlike Scuba diving, however, Snuba doesn’t place this air supply on your back,  but on a floating raft on the surface. This means that you have the freedom of exploring the reefs and coves of the underwater environment without the restrictions of bulky, complex equipment or your lung capacity. This makes is perfect for people of all ages… in fact, there’s even specialist equipment designed to fit children as young as 4 years old!

Snuba

No certification needed

You don’t need to have extensive underwater experience, or any certifications whatsoever in order to go Snuba-ing; you just have to be able to swim. It’s simple to learn, too; the security and safety debriefing takes only 15 minutes. After this you will be fitted with your fins, mask, harness, and weight belt, and you can head out with your instructor. The Snuba guides will always be highly trained and experienced practitioners, so you can rest easy knowing that they’ll be watching over you every step of the way.

You won’t be expected to go any deeper or farther than you are comfortable with, and you’ll have the freedom to explore a little on your own terms too; the only thing holding you back is the  length of your air-supply connection, but there’s plenty of that!

Los cabos is currently experiencing a Snuba craze, so you can find Snuba experiences all over the region, but it’s not the only place in Mexico where you can Snuba. There are also Snuba experiences to be found in Cancun, Riviera Maya, and Puerto Vallarta… so keep an eye out no matter where you go!

If you love the sea, and enjoy water sports Snuba  is a perfect way to make memories with your family while you’re on vacation. Why not take a waterproof camera for some really great snap-shots?
