Why Fall is a Good Time to Travel

Fall is in the air, bringing with it sweater weather, pumpkin spice, and holidays. If you’re thinking of packing your bags and planning a getaway, Mexico is one of the best travel destinations for the fall season, and now is a good time to travel!

Puerto Vallarta is one of the nicest cities in Mexico to visit in the fall. The weather is fantastic this time of year, and you can find some amazing fall travel deals!

Seasonal Pricing

Fall season is in between high and low seasons in Puerto Vallarta, and that means it’s one of the cheapest times of year to visit. Known as the “shoulder season,” you can find fantastic prices on flights and hotel accommodations in the fall, especially if you stay for longer than five nights. Right now is a good time to travel, before the high season picks up.

Black Friday Deals

The day after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday. This is the day that businesses traditionally offer their best discounts and sales of the year. Black Friday 2020 is going to be huge, with businesses around the world offering enticing deals to try to turn a profit before the year is over. Some are starting before Thanksgiving, offering early Black Friday deals to kickstart the season. You can expect to receive great rates on air travel and accommodations when you buy during Black Friday sales.

Cyber Monday is the Monday after Black Friday, and it’s traditionally the big day for online sales. Cyber Monday has now been extended to Cyber Week, in hopes of generating more online revenue before the end of the year. Any business that sells its products or services online will be participating in Cyber Monday and Cyber Week, so it’s a great time to buy flights and hotel accommodations online.

Mexico also has its own version of Black Friday called “Buen Fin,” in November each year. Buen Fin is usually 4 days, over a long weekend, but this year it has been extended to 12 days (November 9 – November 20). Airlines, hotels, transportation agencies and tour operators in Puerto Vallarta are all offering their best prices of the year during these sales.

Resort Deals

Resorts in Puerto Vallarta are offering special deals to travelers heading down this fall. It’s a good idea to call the front desk and ask for special promotions, rather than booking through a third party or online travel agency. For example, Garza Blanca Preserve Resort & Spa in Puerto Vallarta is offering up to 59% off rooms and suites for Black Friday, and kids stay for free as well. In addition to that, Garza Blanca’s Spa Imagine is giving discounts of 15% off spa services, so you can take advantage of the ultimate relaxation treatments. Direct Flights

You can find direct flights to Puerto Vallarta from major cities in the United States and Canada. Most of the airlines have good deals right now, and safety protocols in place. The airport in Puerto Vallarta has safety measures in place, including temperature-taking, health screening questionnaires, improved cleaning protocols, and hand sanitizer dispensers everywhere. Restaurants inside the airport have gone to digital-only menus. Just scan a QR code with your smartphone and view the menu on your phone! This is much safer than using printed menus that multiple customers would touch. It’s important to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight, because the current safety measures can increase wait times at check in and security.

Fall Weather in Puerto Vallarta

The fall weather in Puerto Vallarta is lovely. Summers are hot and humid, but by early November the weather breaks, humidity recedes, and the air cools down. The rainy season ends in late October to early November, and there won’t be much of any rain until the rainy season starts again in June. In the fall in Puerto Vallarta, the mornings are slightly cool, and the days are warm with lots of sunshine. Evenings cool down, and the weather is perfect for walking around outside or for hanging out in the hammock on your balcony.

Average high temperatures in Puerto Vallarta in the fall are in the 80s Fahrenheit and low temperatures are in the mid-60s to mid-70s Fahrenheit.

Water Sports in Puerto Vallarta

Fall is a good time to travel to Puerto Vallarta for water sports such as swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Runoff from summer rains can make the ocean a bit cloudy on rainy days in the summer, but after the rainy season ends in the fall, the ocean clears up, and visibility is better for snorkeling and diving.

The temperature of the ocean is good for swimming, not too hot but not too cold either, ranging from the mid-70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit.

You can take a snorkeling tour to Los Arcos marine park, which can be seen from Garza Blanca, or just snorkel right off the beach.

Puerto Vallarta has some of the best white sand beaches. If you go to Playa Conchas Chinas or Playa Las Gemelas – both located near Garza Blanca – you can even swim around with just goggles on and see fish and other creatures hanging out around rocks.

Diving trips leave from the marina, and will take you further out into the bay, to locations such as Marietas Islands, Las Caletas, or Chimo.

The concierge can book snorkeling and diving tours for you, or recommend the best spots for swimming.

Baby Sea Turtle Releases

Several species of sea turtles visit Puerto Vallarta each year to lay their eggs, including Olive Ridley turtle, Leatherback, Green turtle, and Hawksbill.

Breeding season in spans from July to December. Depending on where you are, you can occasionally see a turtle scoot right up out of the ocean and onto the beach and start digging a nest! If this happens, you must clear out of the area and give her space. Mama turtles don’t care if it happens to be a restaurant, they go back to the same spot where they were born to lay their eggs.

In order to protect the baby turtles, conservationists collect the eggs and keep them at hatcheries. They know when the eggs will hatch, and they invite the community to participate in sea turtle releases. A concierge can help you find out if there is a turtle release during your stay.
