Getting to the beaches on Puerto Vallarta’s south shore

Unless you have chartered a sailing boat or yacht for the day or are thinking of joining an organized excursion, you can reach the beaches on Puerto Vallarta’s south shore by water taxi. The easiest way to do this while staying at Garza Blanca Resort & Spa is to take a taxi or bus to the town of Boca de Tomaltán, which is about 5-10 minutes from the resort by car. From Boca de Tomatlán, you can take a water taxi to the beaches or walk the hiking trail to Las Animas Beach, which takes between 1 and 2 hours, depending on your fitness.

Las Animas Beach

Las Animas is one of the first villages that visitors will encounter when they head south. Las Animas provides visitors with several different beach restaurants, and you can easily spend the day there watching the boats come in and out, playing on the sand and in the sea.

Quimixto Village

Just a little further south, visitors will encounter a more private and secluded beach, perfect for those just wanting privacy. Quimixto has not been modernized at all and it provides more of a laid back atmosphere that allows visitors to take it easy and slow. There are only a few small family convenience stores and a couple of basic restaurants, so you are well advised to bring a picnic, a beach towel and shade. While you are there, you may like to take a hike to Quimixto’s waterfall which will take you around 30 minutes.

Yelapa Town

One of the most sought out hotspots on Puerto Vallarta’s South Shore is Yelapa. Yelapa is a popular fishing town that visitors return to year after year. There are winding paths that take visitors through the town, or you can choose to hike to one of two waterfalls, or maybe eat delicious pies that the ladies of the Yelapa bake, then relax in a hammock and drink raicilla and mezcal. Yelapa and the other surrounding towns should be put on your to-do list for your next Puerto Vallarta vacation at Garza Blanca Resort & Spa.
