The galleries around town each have their own specialities and can feature anything from exquisite blown glass works, to pieces of ceramic, as well as paintings and sketches from international and national artists of renown.
Whether you consider yourself to be a serious collector, or you just enjoy browsing galleries and museums, every day in Puerto Vallarta is the perfect place in which to see and experience new things. The famous Art Walk, for example, is a perennial favorite for locals and tourists alike. Here are some of the highlights of Puerto Vallarta’s art scene:
Galeria Uno
Galeria Uno is a cornerstone amongst the galleries of Puerto Vallarta, and gravitates towards colorful works in a variety of styles. Vibrancy is the feature de jour here!
Omar Alonzo
Omar Alonzo is a sleek and sophisticated gallery which provides the perfect backdrop for the many exhibits which can be found here. The focus here tends to be on photography, sculpture, and paintings.
OPC
Short for Oficina de Proyectos Culturales (Office for Cultural Projects), the OPC is so much more than just a gallery. This is a non-profit arts organization which is focused on the advancement of local artists and cultural programs in the area.
Peyote People
This is a charming gallery which focuses on one-off Mexican folk and colonial artworks including, but not limited to, bead work, wall hangings, wood carvings, and yarn art.
Ro’Wo Gallery
Ro’Wo is the place to be if you want handmade pieces by Mexican artists. Everything from jewellery to furniture can be found here.
Art Walk
The Art Walk is a well-loved seasonal event which sees locals and visitors alike do a circuit of downtown public art and galleries. This year’s Art Walk will run every week from October 26th to May 31st 2017, and is sure to bring a buzz to the downtown area once more. This is your chance to rub shoulders with artists, collectors, residents, patrons, and other like-minded tourists in the Downtown area.
There are some great galleries participating this year, and they all have something interesting and unique to offer. Whatever it is you like in particular, you can be sure that one of the Art Walk galleries will have something for you: folk art, contemporary fine art, antique jewellery, fine ceramics and pottery are all on display.
