Farmers Markets, also known as “Tianguis” in Spanish, have become very popular in recent years. Puerto Vallarta is lucky to have several popular Farmers Markets, which offer locals and tourists another shopping option as well as a fun gathering spot to enjoy live music and eat delicious food from around the world.

It is an excellent opportunity to support the local economy, enjoy organic products, buy handicrafts made by native communities from the region, and indulge in a great variety of tasty culinary treats, all supporting the “buy local” creed.

Puerto Vallarta is a wonderful melting pot of diverse cultures. The Farmers Markets are the perfect spot to experience Mexican culture as well as international culture from expats who’ve chosen to call Puerto Vallarta their home.

The Farmers Markets in the area operate during the winter season when tourists are at their peak and weather is ideal, typically from the first week of November through to April. However, the opening day and closing day differ from market to market. Access is free in all of these markets.

Tuesdays

Riviera Farmers Market

This festive and lively Farmers Market with more than 120 local vendors has a great selection of organic fresh produce, exotic flowers, prepared food, and high quality and unique artisan items. There is also live music which makes it a great family atmosphere.

Hidden Gems

This is an opportunity to support talented local artisans making tradition-inspired jewelry, textiles, sandals and shoes, leather goods, handicrafts, and contemporary art.

Among its food stands you will find handmade bread, cheeses, fresh gourmet pasta, natural ice cream, gluten-free pastries, sweets, and other traditional Mexican delights. You can even indulge in delicacies from Argentina, Spain, India, Lebanon, Italy, and France.

Mercado Artesanal San Pancho

Mercado Artesanal San Pancho

This quaint market makes for a great day trip outside of Puerto Vallarta. Enjoy strolling through the market of handicrafts made by local artisans in a charming setting in the heart of San Pancho. Squeeze in a nice and leisurely lunch at one of the local cafes for an authentic taste of Mexico.

Wednesdays

The Bucerias Farmers Market

The Bucerias Farmers Market takes place every Wednesday. This is a great way to explore the lively Bucerias neighborhood and get in some great shopping while you are at it. You can find at this market handmade clothing for babies, kids, and adults, footwear, bags and hats, artisan baked goods, fresh produce, jewelry, traditional Mexican arts and crafts, and much more.

Thursdays

La Peñita Market

La Peñita Market

La Peñita open-air market is one of the most popular and largest markets in the area.

Be prepared to shop and eat ‘til you drop. There is an impressive amount of beautiful silver and handmade jewelry, locally produced textiles, hand-blown glassware, Talavera plates, Huichol artwork, and Oaxacan rugs to choose from. It’s a great opportunity to support local talent.

You will also find fresh fruits and veggies, baked goods, and locally produced honey, and organic coffee beans. Bring the fresh produce and food home to cook a delicious meal or enjoy on the spot. Here you can find a diverse and fabulous range of items and food from around the world.

This market is one of the few that remains open all year round. However, during the summer months there aren’t as many vendors as during the high season.

Art & Market Marina Vallarta

Marina Vallarta comes alive each Thursday night when it plays host to one of the largest Farmers Markets in Puerto Vallarta. With over 250 vendors, the Marina Vallarta promenade is lined with tents as far as the eye can see with delicious international food, a variety of arts and crafts, and a lively atmosphere where music fills the air.

The beautiful backdrop of the marina under the stars sets the scene for a very international market with a celebratory party-like atmosphere with locals and tourists enjoying a night of shopping, eating, live music, and folkloric performances.

If you are looking for a special souvenir to take home, this is the ideal place to find it. Items vary from handicrafts to high-end boutique clothing and accessories that you won’t find anywhere else.

Sayulita Mercado del Pueblo

Set in the heart of Sayulita’s charming surf town, the Sayulita Market is the place to be each Friday to experience a lively small town farmers market.

Enjoy live music, shop locally produced organic fruits and vegetables, and sample delicious homemade treats while you browse the beautifully made artisan crafts.

Saturday Farmer’s Market Puerto Vallarta

The market is organized and managed by a small group of local women who are dedicated to a vision of offering locally grown and locally made items. The market focuses on bringing sustainable and organic products to the people of Sayulita and its surrounding communities.

All of the proceeds are donated for the needs of the community.

TierraLuna Farmers Market and Art Walk

TierraLuna is a stunning and sophisticated outdoor recreational complex located in the heart of Garza Blanca Preserve Resort & Spa, south of Puerto Vallarta. It is designed to get visitors in touch with nature and promote Mexico’s rich heritage and culture with several boutiques, restaurants, a venue for performances, and even its own whimsical family carousel that gives visitors a 360° view of the Sierra Madre Mountains and coastline.

Every Friday evening during the winter season (November – April), TierraLuna comes to life as never before as it hosts a Farmers Market and Art Walk. Take a stroll through the market and peruse the wide array of organic products and authentic Mexican handicrafts and meet local artists as you walk along the esplanade admiring the unique works of art on exhibition.

Take a break to refuel and grab a snack at Luna Deli, and sit down to relax as you watch a spectacular sunset serenaded by the soft melodies of strolling musicians.

Olas Altas Farmers Market

Puerto Vallarta’s favorite weekend attraction, the Olas Altas Farmers Market, is a blend of the old-world Mexican Tianguis and the North American-style farmers market. Shoppers gather each week to peruse the over 80 vendor booths. All products are made, baked, grown, and sold by vendors who live within 50 miles of Puerto Vallarta.
