The ever popular tradition of lighting a large candle in representation of the unity of two souls into one greater being. In this ceremony, two small candles are lit at the beginning of the wedding ceremony by a representative from each the bride and groom’s family. When it is time to light the unity candle, the bride and groom will take their respective candle and use it in unison to light a new, larger flame together. Many couples choose to keep the unity candle and light it in celebration of anniversaries for many years to come.
Blending of the Sands Ritual
Celebrate the union of two lives as they become one with the Blending of the Sands Ritual, a unique alternative to the unity candle. In this symbolic ceremony, two colored sands are poured simultaneously into a large vase by the bride and groom representing the blending of their lives, their families and their love. Couples who wish may modify the ritual to include extra colors for children, sand from the beach they are married on and a number of other unique modifications.
Much like the highs and lows of the ocean tide, life has its ups and down. During this symbolic ceremony, the bride and groom take a pebble from the beach and toss it into the ocean symbolizing their vow to work through life’s obstacles and remain together for better or worse.
As a special touch, invite guests to participate in a blessing truly fitting of a luxury beach wedding. During the seashell blessing, guests will toss a shell along with their wishes for your marriage into the sea. This is a unique way to make your guests part of your big day.
This wedding ritual, believed to be of Celtic origin, involves binding the bride and groom’s hands together with a cord or ribbon as they recite their vows. The cord is wrapped in the form of an infinity symbol, representing their never-ending love and devotion to one another, and then tied in a knot, which demonstrates the unification of two individuals into one loving entity.
Arras or Coin Ceremony
This Mexican tradition is the perfect way to add a cultural touch to your destination wedding. In this traditional ceremony, thirteen arras, silver or gold coins, are passed from the groom’s hands to the bride in a symbolic promise that he will take care of her financially; the bride then returns the arras to show her commitment to their joint finances.
Lasso (Laso) Ceremony
Much like the Handfasting ritual, the lasso is a Mexican tradition that utilizes a ceremonial rope, beaded or made of fabric, which is placed over the bride and groom’s shoulders in the form of the infinity symbol. This symbolic gesture represents their eternal commitment to one another and their love that will last for eternity.
