Cancun and the Riviera Maya have long represented one of Mexico’s most popular and celebrated beach destinations. Renowned for nightlife, tours, culture, nature and history there are many people who visit Cancun and the Riviera Maya year on year. 2017 is set to be yet another exciting year for Cancun and Riviera Maya and the surrounding areas.

More arrivals to the area

Increased footfall is driving development and investment to the Cancun and Riviera Maya area. Since 2015 the arrivals and departures statistics from Cancun International Airport have increased by 7.76% to 10.78 million passengers in the last 6 months of 2016. What this means for the area is that tourism is not slowing down by any means. As a result, more and more development is planned for the zone.

Riviera Maya and the Golden Mile

If you head south down the coast you will come to Riviera Maya where huge and exciting developments will be under way through 2017. The area often referred to as the “Golden Mile” will receive the most investment as this is the area receiving not only a new Garza Blanca resort, but two theme parks of distinction. Firstly, the first and only Cirque du Soleil theme park in the world will be opening here some time in 2018, and, secondly, Disney is opening a DreamWorks theme park showcasing Shrek and Madagascar (the first in Latin America) and have already invested $800, 000, 000 in its development. This park is also due to open in 2018!

Cancun’s Playa Mujeres Neighborhood

The Playa Mujeres Neighborhood is one of the most popular and exclusive areas around Cancun, and can be found 10km north of the famous, or infamous, Hotel Zone. The people who stay here tend to be those who wish to enjoy the inimitable delights of Cancun whilst avoiding the bustle and boisterous atmosphere of the Hotel Zone, which forever seems to scream “Spring Break!”. The V&V Marina nearby is, in particular, receiving investment in the form of a Garza Blanca resort, new bars, restaurants, and even some new shopping malls.
