I recently returned home from a wonderful family vacation at Garza Blanca Cancun. As head of family vacation operations, I find it helpful to read guest reviews before making the booking, so I can picture whether or not the resort will be the right place for us. We had such a wonderful time that I decided to write a review of Garza Blanca, which I hope you find helpful in making your decision.
Before we begin, it is important for me to note that Garza Blanca Cancun is under construction until 2022. Phases 1 & 2 are of the development are complete, but the finishing touches are still being added to phases 3 & 4. I know this sounds a little questionable. I was skeptical at first too. I was worried that we’d experience noise disturbance, but we didn’t! It seems that phases 3 and 4 are focused on the internal finishes of the property, the façade around the external structures are complete.
Garza Blanca Resort Location
Garza Blanca Cancun has a prime location on a wide stretch of beach that faces that ocean with a clever horseshoe design, so that most suites have a full or partial view of the gorgeous Caribbean Sea. The resort is situated in the tranquil Costa Mujeres neighborhood, just a 30-minute drive from Cancun International Airport, a 25-minute drive from downtown, and a 30-minute ferry ride to Isla Mujeres. It is also only a short taxi ride from location attractions such La Isla Shopping Mall, Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel, and numerous restaurants and bars.
My family and I enjoy the serenity of lounging by the pool and playing on the beach, but we also love to venture outside of the resort and embrace the local culture.
Garza Blanca Cancun is also right next door to its sister resort, Villa del Palmar Cancun. In fact, the two are connected by a sheltered passageway, which I’ll touch upon in more detail later in the review.
Arriving at Garza Blanca Cancun
On arrival to Garza Blanca Cancun, the staff at the security gate took the names of everyone in my party. They ensured that there weren’t any unregistered guests. I loved this attention to detail and it made my family and I feel safe and exclusive.
The staff followed all the COVID-19 health and safety precautions such as temperature checks and hand sanitizer. All staff were wearing face masks. We were also informed that on-site COVID testing was available for guests staying at the resort and that in the case of a positive test result, Garza Blanca Resort offers discounted room only and all-inclusive accommodation for guests to spend their quarantine period.
Firstly, the lobby area was simply stunning! The contemporary architecture felt fresh, bold, and welcoming as well as complementing the surrounding Caribbean landscape.
The check-in process was personal and efficient. You don’t have to line up at the front desk and wait to be called. Instead we were checked-in over a traditional wooden desk with comfy chairs to relax in.
The staff were so polite and attentive. They made us feel special, welcome, and excited to be on vacation at Garza Blanca!
After we received our room key cards, our Butler showed us to our Two-Bedroom Swim Up suite. He gave us a tour of the suite, he showed us how the TV worked and explained that we could order room service directly from the TV. The TV also shows the hotel directory, guest services including account review, weather, parental controls, and a wonderful selection of On Demand movies available for an extra cost. He showed us how to open and close the blackout and sheer curtains with the touch of a button, which we thought was neat.
Our Butler also told us that he would happily assist us in booking excursions to the archeological sites, cenotes, and other attractions within the Yucatan, as well as booking my children a space at the on-site Aqua Park and scheduling activities for my younger children in the Kids´ Club, which accepts children aged 4 up to 12. The Kids´Club at Garza Blanca Cancun won´t be open until 2022, but my younger children had full access to the activities at the Kids´Club at Villa del Palmar Cancun.
Our Perfect Suite
Having space is important to us as a family while on vacation. I was traveling with my husband and our three children. We have a 14 year old son, and two daughters aged 4 and 8, so we booked the 1834 square-foot two-bedroom swim-up suite to avoid getting on top of each another.
Before I get into the suite tour, I have to say that the unit was utterly beautiful! The décor was avant-garde and minimalist with gorgeous Mexican Caribbean tones patterned throughout. The suite felt very cozy and like a home away from home. The warm tones perfectly balanced the sharpness of the white granite flooring and simplistic approach.
The suite featured a king-size bed in the master bedroom, another bedroom with 2 queen-size beds. Every room had air-conditioning, which was a bonus while not being used to the warmer climate. Each bedroom also had its own en suite bathroom and a smart TV. I’m not a huge fan of watching TV, but my husband and I enjoyed cuddling up on the giant bed and watching a movie before going to sleep. The kids enjoyed the treat of watching TV before bed too. And of course, a review of Garza Blanca wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the comfortable beds. I learned from the friendly staff that Tafer actually have their own line of mattresses and linens that are designed specifically for the Garza Blanca Resorts and guarantee a good night’s sleep.
My two daughters shared the second bedroom, and my son slept on the sofa bed in the living room. The living room was spacious and my son told us he enjoyed sleeping on the sofa bed, which he said was comfortable, and sleeping in the living room gave him easy access to the fridge for midnight snacking, which he loves to do. There is also a bathroom with a shower next to the dining area, so my son got to have his own private bathroom too.
The kitchen was actually my favorite area in the suite. It was fully equipped with upscale appliances including an oven, microwave, fridge, stove, coffee and tea maker, and a Nespresso machine. It was well-stocked with pots, pans, cooking utensils, tableware, and glasses. While we booked the Gourmet Culinary All-Inclusive Plan, we still enjoyed making our own breakfasts on some days and enjoyed a special family dinner in the comfort of our suite during one of the evenings of our seven-night stay. We do enjoy dressing up and going out for dinner, but we also like to cook at ‘home’.
We spent most of our days lounging around the pools or venturing out to Cancun, but when we returned early in the afternoon, we enjoyed lounging in the hammock on our private terrace and cooling off with a dip in our swim up pool.
Another benefit to the suite is that it comes equipped with a washer and dryer, which is handy when you have three children.
The resort featured several heated pools including an adults-only pool which had a swanky swim-up bar and a serene relaxation area with hammocks, a fun pool with a transparent edge which we enjoyed taking family photos in, and a playful family-pool, where my children splashed each other and made fond memories. All of the pools offered an outstanding pool butler service where we could order unlimited delectable food and drinks brought right to our lounge chair.
This is why I enjoy staying in a place that offers a luxury service. They go above and beyond. It truly makes you feel special and valued, and you’re always guaranteed delicious cuisine and refreshing drinks along with top-notch service.
Spend the Day at The Beach
Located on the soft white sand directly in front of the resort and offering breathtaking ocean views, the Garza Blanca beach club embraces its Caribbean surroundings and exudes an elegant charm. You can enjoy the experience of dining with your toes in the sand and delight in relaxing on one of the extendable lounge chairs while catching a tan or reading a book. The ambiance is vibrant and upbeat with Latin music softly echoing through the umbrellas as well as the surrounding buzz of beach volleyball.
You can order thirst-quenching cocktails freshly made by the mixologist and hearty meals from the lunchtime menu, such as traditional tacos and succulent burgers. The staff were so attentive and took into consideration our dietary requirements when taking our food orders.
My daughters opted to spend their day making crafts and playing video games at the Kids´Club, and my son went to play at the Aqua Park, so my husband and I got to enjoy some quality time alone on the beach without the kids, which we appreciated. We love spending time as a family too, but every couple needs a break from the kids from time to time!
Exciting Resort Activities
Guests staying at Garza Blanca have access to all of the amenities at Villa del Palmar Cancun, which is a huge bonus and makes up for the fact that some amenities of Garza Blanca are still under construction until 2022.
My husband and I booked a couples´massage at Villa del Palmar’s beautiful Village Spa, where we indulged in a 100 minute lovers ritual with a body wrap followed by a relaxing massage. We arrived an hour before our appointment to use the high-tech hydrotherapy circuit, which fully relaxed us before our treatment.
Villa del Palmar also featured exciting activities including dancing lessons, horseshoes, stand up paddle boarding, and a kayak tour. We also enjoyed a family movie night on the beach and a Magic Show, which the kids loved. The possibility for adventure and fun was endless!
Incredible Gourmet Cuisine
If you do decide to stay at Garza Blanca Cancun, then your taste buds are in for a treat! Garza Blanca and Villa del Palmar both feature outstanding gourmet restaurants that challenge the gastronomic boundaries and serve dishes bursting with exotic infusions and flavors. Villa del Palmar features an array of signature restaurants including La Casona Steak House, Zama Restaurant, and Caprichos. Garza Blanca offers three restaurants right now including Blanca Blue, the Snack, and the Food Truck with Bocados Steak House and Hiroshi restaurants opening in 2022.
We loved going to Blanca Blue at Garza Blanca for breakfast as it offers such a gorgeous atmosphere with mother-of-pearl and gold highlights inside and a gorgeous terrace with views of the resort´s pools and twinkling ocean. The extensive a-la-carte menu offers an array of indulgent and delicious breakfast treats such as the Tafer croissant, omelettes, Aztec Crepes, and Mexican favorites including Chilaquiles and Enfrijoladas.
For lunch, we would alternate between the Food Truck, the Snack Bar, poolside dining, and Zama restaurant, where we’d indulge in traditional Mexican Cuisine.
For dinner, we dined at Blanca Blue twice, trying different menu items both times. On other nights we took the sheltered passageway over to Villa del Palmar Cancun and dined at Hiroshi twice, Tafer’s signature Japanese restaurant that focuses on contemporary sushi that combines originality and flavor. We also enjoyed Italian fare one evening at Davino Restaurant, and tender steaks at La Casona Steak House on another.
If you purchase the all-inclusive package as we did, you have the opportunity to enjoy unlimited food, cocktails and drinks in all of the gourmet restaurants!
We thoroughly enjoyed our family vacation at Garza Blanca Cancun and made such happy memories. We’ll definitely be returning to continue our adventure! I do hope you can find guidance from my review of Garza Blanca and that if you decide to book, that you enjoy your vacation as much as we did!
