Review of Hotel Signature Mattresses and Linens

Table of Contents

Most of us go on vacation to rest and pamper our busy minds and tired bodies, a well-deserved pause from our busy lives. We book spa treatments, chill out by the pool, eat delicious meals, and savor afternoon siestas on heavenly hotel beds. Personally, I always sleep better in a hotel room than anywhere else. There are several reasons for this including the perfect temperature, blackout curtains, and many hotels actually even have their own signature mattresses.

Why Are Hotel Mattresses So Comfortable?

Usually, upon arrival in our resort room, we quickly scan the space and immediately dash to the window to take in the beautiful views; the bed becomes more of an afterthought, a place to set our bags, hats, jackets, etc. We don’t give it much importance, yet if we think about it, where we rest our bodies is as important as the spa treatments we carefully select to soothe them.

Lately, when I travel, I love to soak in every detail surrounding me. The more I am present, the more fully I enjoy the entire experience. On my most recent trip to Los Cabos, I stayed at the beautiful Garza Blanca Resort & Spa Los Cabos, which is part of TAFER Hotels & Resorts’ collection of luxury properties.

Since Garza Blanca is an upscale resort, I expected that our vacation experience would be nothing short of perfection, but what I wasn’t expecting was that I would sleep so well! I had the most restful and comfortable night’s sleep that I remember ever having.

This got me thinking, why are hotel mattresses so comfortable? And I decided to investigate. The next day, while lounging by the pool, I connected to the resort’s complimentary Wi-Fi and asked Google to answer this question that I started to deeply ponder. I asked, what kind of mattresses do hotels use, and why are they so comfy?

I found out several things about hotel room beds including that many hotels get their mattresses custom-made by a special manufacturer.

5-Star Hotel Mattresses

During my research, I found out that 5-star hotels consider their bedding sets and mattresses an investment. High-quality materials and excellent craftsmanship make a huge difference in the overall sleep experience of their guests. There are a few different types of mattresses that hotels use, including:

  • Gel Memory foam mattresses – these mattresses mold to the shape of your body and are also filled with gel microbeads which not only help to regulate your temperature, but also increase the density of the mattress. Higher density mattresses offer firmer support, which means you do not sink too far into the mattress, and they also allow more air to circulate around you. Fun fact: Memory foam was originally invented by NASA!
  • Innerspring mattresses – this type of mattress uses a pocked coil system, which provides a solid support structure and reduces motion transfer. Innerspring mattresses offer a flat and even sleep surface with minimal contouring. Pillow tops are commonly used with these mattresses, which add an extra layer of cushion to create a softer surface. Sleeping on a pillow top bed is described as ´sleeping on a cloud´ and the top layer also helps regulate your body temperature, allowing for a cooler sleep experience.
  • Adjustable Air Bed Mattresses – these mattresses are not the inflatable type you might envision; they are comfy mattresses that give sleepers greater control over their sleep experience. Instead of using coils, air bed mattresses have 3 air chambers on each side of the bed, which can be adjusted according to firmness preference on individual sides of the bed, making it an ideal choice for couples with different sleep preferences. These beds are also great for those with chronic pain since they offer more support and relieve pressure on certain body areas.

After learning much more about mattresses than I ever thought was possible, I started to research the types of bedding that hotels use. The mattress is not the only important thing when considering the overall sleep experience, the bedding set must be on par with the cushy mattresses. A high-quality sheet set will have a thread count between 200 and 300+. The same is true for pillowcases. Thread count isn’t the only important thing, weave texture and quality of the material the sheets are made of is just as important. Many hotels use cotton sheets with a sateen weave because of the smooth feel and breathability. Hotels usually use down or feather duvets, which makes them feel fluffy and light, yet still cozy and warm. The duvet covers and the plump pillows round everything out for all-encompassing comfort.

After our first night’s sleep, which was absolute perfection, I couldn’t stop thinking about this cloud-like bed, so I decided to ask our dedicated butler about it. He told us that the resorts use TAFER’s signature linens and mattresses, which is just another example of their commitment to quality.

He told us that the pillows are 100% cotton combined with a luxurious gel fiber that gently cradles your head for a peaceful night’s sleep. For those who have a particular pillow preference, a pillow menu is also available, so guests can choose the type of pillow they want.

The TAFER signature bed sheets have a 300 thread count and the material is made with 60% cotton and 40% polyester. The signature mattresses are specially designed innerspring mattresses. The king-size bed has 900 coils and the queen-size bed has 630 coils. The coils are individually packaged and support the body’s natural shape. The mattresses are also constructed with memory gel, which helps regulate your temperature to keep you comfortable, transforming your room into an absolute sleep paradise.

Our complete vacation experience at Garza Blanca Los Cabos Resort was outstanding. They have put the utmost attention into every detail, and the bed was no exception. For me, just sleeping so comfortably at night and waking up refreshed was one of the highlights of my trip, which is why I decided to write a review on the signature mattresses and linens by TAFER. They give you the best sleep experience and therefore deserve to be shouted about!

How to Recreate the Best Sleeping Experience at Home

After our stay at Garza Blanca Los Cabos, my husband and I decided that it was time for us to make a 5-star comfort hotel bed at home. I discovered so many things through my research and I knew that with the right mattress and bedding we could probably come close to achieving the same level of comfort at home. The first morning after our trip we woke up in our bed at home with stiff necks and backaches and we slept really poorly since we both tossed and turned all night. We hadn’t realized just how uncomfortable our own bed was until we noticed the difference between the quality of sleep we had at the hotel versus at home. That’s when we knew it was time for us to invest in a high-quality mattress and bedding since it was either that or move into Garza Blanca Resort in Mexico, which we would love to do, but can’t afford to. We will definitely go back though!

If your next travel endeavor takes you to a five-star hotel, such as Garza Blanca Los Cabos, savor every detail, the beautiful property, premium gastronomy, outstanding amenities, but also take time to notice the quality of your sleep and how refreshed you feel when you wake up every morning in an absolute paradise. It may also inspire you to create your own hotel sleep experience at home, since we spend one-third of our lives sleeping, it is always worth investing in the right bed. A good night’s sleep is so important for your physical and emotional health, and take it from me, it is truly worth the investment!
