Summer Vacations for Kids in Puerto Vallarta

Table of Contents

So, school’s out, the kids are home all the time, and it’s time for that good old family vacation that everyone’s been needing so badly. If you have booked a vacation to Puerto Vallarta and just been hit with the panic that there might be nothing to occupy the kids while you get some quality time with your spouse you can rest easy! Puerto Vallarta is full to the brim with great things to do, and we have some ideas for you to consider here.

Resort Activities for kids

For those staying at Garza Blanca Preserve Resort & Spa you will be treated to a whole host of activities to entertain your kids in Puerto Vallarta. The summer vacations welcome additional activities tailored to make sure your children have marvelous experiences including a planting a tree activity, mini hiking tours, pebble painting, sandcastles, mini-olympics and more.

Hike to Las Animas Beach

Why not hop on a bus, take a taxi or drive along the South Shore highway (Carretera a Barra de Navidad) to Boca de Tomatlan? This fishing village is approximately 10 minutes from the Garza Blanca resort, so it’s not too far; when you get to the town go to the south side of the river where there is a path that will take you along the coast to Las Animas Beach. If you have trouble finding the start of the path you can ask a local for some help. This hike is leisurely and invigorating, and will take you around 2 hours at a reasonable pace. Suitable for children around 5 years of age or older you will find that this hike is a great way to see some of what nature has to offer here. After spending some time at Las Animas Beach, you can either return by walking or take a water taxi back to Boca de Tomatlan.

Las Animas

Las Animas Beach Puerto Vallarta

The real magic of the previously mentioned activity is what happens when you get to Las Animas; kids love this beach! Why, you ask? Well, there’s a great pier they can jump off into clear, warm waters which are perfect for swimming and snorkelling. While you relax on the sand they can make new friends, feed the fish and explore the waterfall at the south end of the beach. The restaurants here are also great, and sure to please even the fussiest of eaters.

What to do in Puerto Vallarta with Kids?

Visit Rio Cuale

Found in the very heart of the downtown area of Puerto Vallarta the area of Isla Rio Cuale is often overlooked; this is a big mistake. In the 70’s this was designed as a kids’ area, think Swallows and Amazons! The Isla is a water-locked chunk of land which was formed by the natural braiding of the River Cuale and can be reached by two hanging bridges that are usually quite the highlight for the kids. One thing of note here, besides the statue of John Huston and the cultural centre, are the many cats that call this place home! They are fed by dedicated animal lovers in the area and tend to be very friendly! Moms might enjoy taking their kids to the Rio Cuale too as there is a large flea market here.
